Music Magazine Photoshoot 1

For my music magazine photo shoot my location was on Prior Pursglove College campus. My model was a friend of mine and loved having a photo shoot and she said she couldn't wait to see the final design.

I like this one because of her pose and her facial expression.

I really like this one however I wouldn't be able to use this image as for the shadow across her face.

I really like this image because the lighting is highlighting her cheekbones as well as her make up.

I like this one however the clothing choice doesn't look very R&B.

this image is perfect for a double page spread and I like this image because the lighting is most on her cheekbones, forehead, nose and her chin.

I like this image because I like her pose, this would be perfect for a contents page, however I had problems because she is holding onto the railing so therefore I would have to include the railing into my magazine.

I like this image because it's like she is looking up and this could illustrate she is looking up to her fans.

I like this image because it gives a raunchy look to her however I had problems cutting the image out.

I like this one because she looks pretty and her hair looks messy at the front but a stylish messy.

I like this one because I like the angle of the camera.

I like this one because she is smiling and her makeup looks professional however I had problems because of the shadows therefore I couldn't use it on my magazine.

I like this one because she has her hand on her hip which shows she could be

I like this image because her lips look very natural and her eye makeup looks very feline-like.

Music Photography!

R&B
This is a music genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip hop and dance. R&B originates from traditional rhythm and blues music, now the term R&B is most associated with African-American music that originated in the 1940's.

The term was originally used by record companies to describe recordings marketed predominantly to urban African Americans, at a time when "urban rocking, jazz based music with a heavy, insistent beat" was becoming more popular.

Contemporary R&B, also known as simply R&B, is a music genre that combines elements of rhythm and blues, soul, funk, pop, hip hop and dance. Contemporary R&B has a polished record production style, drum machine-backed rhythms, an occasional saxophone-laced beat to give a jazz feel (mostly common in contemporary R&B songs prior to the year 1995), and a smooth, lush style of vocal arrangement. Electronic influences are becoming an increasing trend, and the use of hip hop or dance-inspired beats are typical, although the roughness and grit inherent in hip hop may be reduced and smoothed out. Contemporary R&B vocalists are often known for their use of melisma, popularized by vocalists such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

Justin Timberlake (R&B: Pop, Hip Hop, Soul.)
Justin Timberlake is an American singer, songwriter, and actor. he was born in Memphis, Tennessee and he is known for being one of the two main vocalists in the boy band NSYNC During the group's hiatus, Timberlake released his solo studio albums Justified (2002) and FutureSex/LoveSounds (2006); the former spawned hits "Cry Me a River" and "Rock Your Body", while the latter debuted atop the U.S. Billboard 200 and produced the Billboard Hot 100 number-one singles "SexyBack", "My Love", and "What Goes Around... Comes Around". With each album exceeding sales of seven million copies worldwide, he was established as one of the most commercially successful singers of the decade. In 2013, Timberlake resumed his music career with his third and fourth albums The 20/20 Experience and The 20/20 Experience – 2 of 2. The former became the best-selling record of the year and spawned hits "Suit & Tie" and "Mirrors", while the latter is preceded by lead single "Take Back the Night" and followed by "Not a Bad Thing".

Timberlake has had three major headlining tours including The Justified World Tour, The FutureSex/LoveShow also The 20/20 Experience World Tour.

Justin Timberlake has been nominated for many awards including American Music Awards, BET Awards and Grammy Awards also he has won over 51 awards in total.

The subject is using indirect mode of address also this shows a little of his personality because if you watch the video attached above, you can see that he does everything he possibly can to interact with his fans and to provide opportunities to meet him and make fans dreams come true. He seems fun to be around as his body language seems very laid-back also he looks like he's a prankster as he is smiling whilst looking away from the camera which I think indicates that he is a prankster. The subject's clothing is very smart and it makes him look very sophisticated and wealthy. The setting seems it's in a photography studio with just a plain backdrop. It is a medium shot as it only shows his torso and his face.
The subject is using indirect mode of address also his facial expression looks surprised because his eyebrows look a little raised but also he looks confused which I also think is because of his eyes eyebrows and mouth expression because his mouth is the slightest bit open which signifies that he could be a little confused. He looks like he is leaning on a table of some sort this shows that he could be tired  we don't know if there is any lighting as the edit of the picture is black and white also his clothing looks old fashioned, as it could be from the 1950's. His hair looks like it's been greased back in a refined way. This shot is a medium shot because you can only see his face and his torso. The angle looks a little lower than straight on. The black and white effect and his clothing symbolises the era that he wants to represent, which is not the one that he is from.
The subject is using direct mode of address. The way he is looking into the camera it looks like he is wanting to look sexy and entice his fans. His body language looks like he is about to start dancing, this is a major part of his career as he is a singer/songwriter when he is producing his music videos he is often dancing in them which makes him look extraordinary because not many singers can sing as well as dance. The subject's clothing looks very casual as he is only in a shirt and jeans which suggests he is comfortable in anything that he wears. The shot is a full body shot, the angle is very low because he is bending down. He looks like he is in a studio and its just a plain white background.
The subject is using direct mode of address and I think that he looks like he is trying to see what is on the other side of the camera. His left shoulder is lower than his right this implies that he's trying to express that he is trying to be a bit of a gangster however the clothing he is wearing isn't what a stereotypical gangster would wear. The subject is wearing a smart white suit with a bow tie this implies that he is wealthy and that he could be going to an event or ceremony. The setting looks like a photography studio however the background looks like it is a clear, blue sky. The sky contrasts with his hair because it is so dark it makes it more noticeable against a light coloured background. This type of shot is called a medium close up shot because you can see his facial features clearly and half of his chest.

The subject is standing to the side as if he is almost looking over his shoulder, he is using direct mode of address. The subject is looking directly into the camera and it looks like his facial expression is very confident because he is looking into the camera also whilst looking into his eyes it looks like he is trying to seduce the customer, as this shot was for his first solo album. The setting looks like it's another planet/galaxy however it is most likely a green screen. Timberlake looks like a stereotypical 'bad boy' in this shot as he is wearing a leather jacket and the connotations of leather jackets are dangerous, bad boys.

The subject here is posing with an artist who he has worked with before named Jimmy Fallon, they are most known together for the History of rap, they are 5 separate songs and each song is a separate song but within the song there is about fifteen different songs and together they put their own spin on the overall song as a whole. In this photo Timberlake is looking confused and by the way that his eyebrow is raised but also he is meaning to do it because you can see that Jimmy is also looking shocked and confused also because his eyebrows are raised and his mouth is open as to say what/who is that? This particular photo is from an issue of GQ magazine. The background looks like it is just a plain photography studio with a plain white/cream/grey so their navy and black suits contrast with the background.
Beyoncé (R&B: Pop, Funk and Soul.)
Beyoncé started off with Destiny's Child including hits such as "Say My Name", "Lose my Breath" and "Independent Women" which was the soundtrack for the film show Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Beyoncé has starred in a number of different movies such as, Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers in Goldmember, Xania in The Pink Panther but is most known for playing Deena Jones in Dreamgirls. She has wrote and performed on a various number of shows but also her singles with Destiny's Child and her songs solo have been used as soundtracks for shows and for films. Crazy in Love has been used several times for Fifty shades of grey which is due out in 2015 but also the single has been used in the blockbuster film The Great Gatsby. According to this website Beyoncé's biggest hits include Irreplaceable, Crazy in Love - which was her debut solo single and Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It), all of the songs have reached number one on the charts and they have stayed there for ten weeks, eight weeks and four weeks. Beyoncé is a current, stylish and up-to-date artist as she has been active in her solo career since 2002 but if it was since she first rose to fame of being in a girl group it was since 1999.
Beyoncé has been nominated for various awards such as BET Awards, American Music Awards, Video Music Awards and MTV Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award which she won this year which was given to her by her husband, Jay Z, and her daughter, Blue Ivy.

Watch the following video.

This image is from her music video "Pretty Hurts" which went to number one in America and in the United Kingdom. The subject is standing with trophies behind her which shows that she has won many beauty pageants which is what the music video is about. Her facial expression looks angry because she is using direct mode of address and her eye makeup looks smoky and fierce. Her light yet bright pink lipstick makes her look very feminine but also her hair makes her look feminine because of the way it is styled, it is curled also it has been brought to the front. Her hair is blonde but some people the perfect hair colour is blonde, as she has been entering competitions she might have been trying to win over the judges by bleaching/dying her hair. She is holding a trophy in her hand and it is resting on her shoulder however it looks like she wants to throw it away, also it looks like she's not proud of it because she's holding it in the wrong manner, because she looks angry she could be angry at the people that are trying to change themselves into something that they're not and they're trying to be someone else's definition of pretty.  Her top looks very glamorous and it has beads and jewels on which is very feminine as most women like jewels and sparkly things on they're clothing. This shot is a medium close up shot as you can see her chest also her facial features are in focus.

This image is a medium close up because as you can see you can see her shoulders and her face is in focus. The subject looks very fierce in this picture as she has smoky eye makeup and her hair is falling around her face also it looks very hoarse which gives an edgy look but also her cheekbones are noticeable because her hair flowing around her cheeks this makes her cheekbones more enhanced . Her facial expression looks very impassive, like she doesn't care, because her mouth is open and the way her eyes are looking straight into the camera. The subject's outfit looks very elegant and sexy because as you can see you can mainly see her bust and because of the high neck line and the majority of the outfit is black it makes you look at the purple part of the outfit. The setting looks like it could be on a hillside or a balcony because she looks high up and I can tell this because there is a small tree in the background.

This shot is a long shot as it is of the full body also this shot was included in her . The subject is using direct mode of address to create a relationship with the person who is seeing the photo. Beyoncé's body language looks very confident as she has her hands above her shoulders and her hands are placed flat on the wall also it looks like she is pushing her bust out this shows that she is trying to be sexy. The subject's facial expression looks happy because her mouth is slightly open and it looks like she is about to smile however she also looks surprised because her eyebrows are lifted slightly. She is wearing lingerie and a long, foot length, cape-like gown which make her legs look longer which overall makes her look sexy. Her hair is tied up in what looks like a messy bun and she has bangs curving round her face which makes her look attractive. Knowles' make up has been put on but it has been put on to a minimum. She is wearing red, peep toe, platform, sandal heels which are very sparkly and feminine. Red is the colour of fire and so it is associated with danger, power and passion, the colour red is on all the clothing is wearing so it looks like she is trying to be passionate with the person who is viewing the image. The lighting is very important in the photo because the lighting is enhancing her chest, face and waist as the lighting is shining bright, the brightest light in the image is on her chest making the person who is looking at the photo look at her chest. The image looks like it could be in a bedroom as she is wearing lingerie and women wear lingerie in the bedroom The setting could be in a photography studio with a plain grey/black backdrop and wooden flooring.

This shot is a long shot as you. An see her full body. The subject's facial expression is very blank however she is pouting so this could show that's he is confident. Her clothing looks very bright especially her top as it is luminous yellow and yellow associated with joy and she does look a little happy. Beyoncé looks like she is dancing because of the way her hips are angled and her arms are above her head which shows that she is a good dancer and she has to be considering she has to do it for a living because she is a R&B artist. Beyoncé 's heels look very classy, expensive and the colour of them tie in with her yellow cropped jumper/top. The way her hips and bottom are positioned it looks like she is sticking it out and trying to attract attention to her bottom also I think she is trying to be sexy.

This is shot is a medium close up shot because you can see her face and a bit of her arms. The subject is using direct mode of address because she wants to create a relationship with the reader or the person viewing the image. Her body language looks like she is trying to cover herself up with her arms, however, her facial expression is impassive although she has there mouth open her eyes look sexual like she is trying to draw the reader in. The subject's body looks airbrushed because it looks golden but also her nails are light blue which both colours could show royalty. The subject's hair in this image is set in the 1960s as the beehive was very popular also this connects with her as her nickname is "Queen B".  Beyoncé's hair looks full of volume and bounce which means that she takes care of herself.

Chris Brown (R&B: Pop, Hip Hop and Dance.)
Christopher Maurice "Chris" Brown (born May 5, 1989) is an American recording artist, dancer, and actor. Born in Tappahannock, Virginia, he taught himself to sing and dance at a young age and was involved in his church choir and several local talent shows. Having signed with Jive Records in 2004, Brown released his self-titled debut studio album the following year. It peaked at number two on the US Billboard 200 and was later certified double platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). With his first single "Run It!" peaking atop the US Billboard Hot 100, Brown became the first male artist as a lead since Diddy in 1997 to have his debut single top the chart. His second album Exclusive (2007) spawned his second Hot 100 number one "Kiss Kiss", in addition to "With You" and "Forever". The album was also certified double platinum by the RIAA.

In 2009, Brown received much media attention after pleading guilty to felony assault of singer and his then-girlfriend Rihanna; he was sentenced to five years of probation and six months of community service. His third album Graffiti was released later that year, and included the top-twenty single "I Can Transform Ya". Brown's fourth album F.A.M.E. (2011) became his first to top the Billboard 200; it spawned hit singles "Yeah 3x", "Look at Me Now", and "Beautiful People". F.A.M.E. earned Brown his first Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 54th Grammy Awards. His fifth album Fortune was released in 2012. However, after the release of Exclusive, Brown's albums have not been well received by music critics.

Chris Brown has many inspirations for his music but he says the biggest inspiration of all time, for him, would have to be Michael Jackson. Chris made a video dedicated to MJ when he died called "She Ain't You". In the video Chris wore something similar to what Michael did in his video "Smooth Criminal". You can see he was a big inspiration because when he was younger he taught himself to sing and dance by looking at MJ'S music videos and trying to replicate his dance moves. In "She Ain't You" he copies Michael Jackson in the "Smooth Criminal" video by doing his leaning dance move without any part of his body touching the floor , except for his feet.

Brown has been nominated for many awards and has won many of them. He has been nominated for BET awards, Billboard Music Awards, MTV Music Awards and Grammys. Brown has been nominated for awards more than he has won them.

The subject looks like he is praying. Chris looks very focused and that  also what he is wearing is very sophisticated, the material looks like it is satin which is really expensive. Chris is using indirect mode of address as he is praying and when you close your eyes it makes you more concentrated. Brown has tattoos on his hand and behind his ear, on his hand there is a skull which signifies as death or mortality also he has three stars behind his right ear can represent light or power. The setting looks like it's in a photography studio also the image has a black and white effect. The black and white effect creates a gloomy mood. This shot is medium close up shot because his face is in focus. He also has his ear pierced the earring itself looks like diamond which implies he is wealthy.

This shot is a long shot as you can see his full body and most of the back wall and the floor. Chris is looking away from the camera which means he is using indirect mode of address. The subject's facial expression looks very impassive and dismissive as his face is very blank and he looks very unaware of what is going on. The image is in black and white which creates a gloomy mood. The subject is wearing all black, black has a number of different connotations which are elegance, power, death mystery and evil so he could be using any one of them. I think he is using it for mystery as his face looks very mysterious and when I am looking at this image I wonder what he is thinking as he looks like he is deeply concentrated also black clothing can be seen as very smart The image looks like it is in a photography studio because of the composition of the chair and the way he is sat. The clothing, the chair and the jacket create a contrast between the colours as it is displayed black, white then black.

This shot is a medium shot as you can see all of his chest and face. His body language looks very unconfident as his hands are in his pockets also he is using indirect mode of address. The subject's facial expression looks very impassive. The setting looks like it is in a photography studio and the image is in a black and white effect which creates a gloomy mood/setting. Brown's clothing looks very up to date for what rappers and R&B artists wear also I think that the t-shirt looks like he is a gangster, simply because of the panels and the leather look of the panels on the arms and on the chest. The tattoos on his arms and on his neck also supports the idea of him being a gangster, what also supports my idea of him being a gangster is that he could have a gold/silver chain around his neck and stereotypically gangsters wear gold chains and normally gangsters get involved in crime. The subject's t-shirt is mainly white and white can mean purity, goodness, innocence and light, in this instance I think that it is being used for goodness as the case was in 2009 he might be trying to prove himself.

This shot is a medium close up as you can see his chest and face also his face is in focus. The subject's facial expression looks very cocky but also he could be trying to be sexy because he is biting his lip however, when biting his lip it could be a sign he is trying to be a gangster. His body language is also like he is trying to be a gangster because his arms are held up and his hands are posing like a gun. The subject's clothing selection is what I think the opposite of a stereotypical rapper as the jacket looks like denim and the t-shirt looks like a full length checkered shirt and it looks like a normal middle aged man would wear it. The subject is using direct mode of address This shows that he could be trying to create a relationship with the person who is viewing the image. The setting looks like it is in a photography studio also there is a black and white effect which creates a gloomy effect which ties in with the subject's body language as he is tring to be a gangster and gangsters can be frightening especially as the subject is holding his hands up as if they were guns.

In this shot you can only see his shoulders and his face therefore this shot is a close up. The subject is looking up and it could be a connotation of him looking up to his fans and being thankful for them. Chris is using indirect mode of address and this creates suspense and mystery because the consumer ,who has bought the product, would want to know why he isn't looking into the camera. The tattoo on his neck looks like it has been made into a sleeve tattoo and the stereotype of a male contemporary R&B artist is basically a man who has tattoos, basically head to toe and has a lot of gold jewellery or diamonds. Chris has a tattoo and is wearing earrings which shows he is wealthy and also he could be put into the category of a stereotypical male R&B artist. The setting looks like it is in a photography studio. The subject's clothing looks very expensive as it is leather and this also implies that he is wealthy.
